2011年美洲校友歸寧母校『尋根、聚情、講學』之旅

“Seeking Roots, Building Relationships, and Presenting Lectures"
Trip Report

Under the leadership of Chris Yung, President of the Southern California Pui Ying Alumni Association, and with the sponsorship and guidance of Professor Choi Kin-Chung, Honorable Chairman of the Pui Ying Alliance Association, and with the encouragement of Dr. Poon Hon Chung, a Friendship and Cultural Exchange Program to visit Pui Ying schools in China and Hong Kong was formed. This tour group consisted of more than 30 alumni and their spouses from Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Lima, Peru. The Peru Pui Ying Alumni Association is newly formed and the first PYAA in South America. The theme of our trip was 『尋根、聚情、講學』(“Seeking Roots, Building Relationships, and Presenting Lectures”).

Seeking roots – The group visited the original Pui Ying School established by Pui Ying’s founding father, Dr. Noyes in 1879, and other Pui Ying schools started since then in the region.

Building relationships – The group met school official and teachers, alumni of the Guangzhou region and Hong Kong, students from kindergartens to secondary schools. Tour group members also met other alumni within the group who, before the trip, were “strangers.” During the tour, the group built friendships which are bonded by the “Pui-Ying White-Green” umbrella, the so-called 『四海之內，白綠一家』. They exchanged email addresses for future contact, talked about future visits and much more. By the end, they were no longer strangers to each other anymore.

Presenting Lectures – Five alumni presented lectures to the teachers and students. These lectures were very well received.

Overall, I can say we accomplished our program objectives. Finally, I want to take this opportunity to note a few highlights of our trip by the participants and post pictures taken by Mr. Leung, the group’s official photographer for the entire trip (Thanks, Mr. Leung). We would also like to extend our deep thanks to Professor and Mrs. Choi, Dr. Eugene So, Joseph Chan, Daniel Tsang and Ms. Cheng, and the many other officials from the Pui Ying Alliance Association, as well as the many more alumni, school principals and teachers for organizing the events for accompanying us to sightseeing, taking us to good restaurants for delicious dinners and making our visit so wonderful and enjoyable.

I also want to encourage alumni who did not go this time to consider organizing future trips (“Seeking Roots, Building Relationships, and Presenting Lectures” #2 …)

『尋根、聚情、講學』旅遊后記

在南加州培英校友會容守信會長的領導下、在培英校友聯會主席蔡建中教授的贊助下、在潘漢松醫生的支持下，南加州培英校友會組織了一個校友學術交流團歸寧訪問培英母校。這個旅遊團共有三十多位校友及家人，分別來自美國南加州、北加州、西雅圖、及南美秘魯利馬地區，在2011年10月訪問廣東及香港培英學校。秘魯培英校友會是在南美最新成立的一間校友會，更使這次訪門團加了一個難忘的意義。這次訪問團的主題是『尋根、聚情、講學』。

尋根 -- 我們訪問白鶴洞培英中學，這是校祖那夏禮博士於1879年在廣州創立的第一間培英學校。我們又訪間幾間在廣州市的培英學校、及西關培英、江門培英、台山培英。然後再到香港訪間沙田培英及香港培英。

聚情 -- 我們新認識很多在廣東及香港培英學校的領導人、老師、學生及校友。還有許多團友在未訪問前我們是陌生的，但經過這短短的十多天、我們都成為了很好的朋友。『四海之內，白綠一家』是無可否認的。

講學 -- 有五位校友負責講述美國科工及教育，與老師及學生互相切磋，交換意見。很受到他們的歡迎。

總結而言，我們可說是完成了這次訪問團最主要要做的目的。

最後我想直這機會為這次旅行作一個小小的記錄，登錄團友們所寫的感想。並放一些由梁先生替我們所拍的照片。我們更衷心多謝蔡建中教授及蔡太、蘇棉煥醫生、鄭靜小姐、陳宜及曾業俊校友、各學校校長及教職員等等的熱力支持、招待，使我們有一個愉快及難忘的旅程。雖然我們這次是第一個『尋根、聚情、講學』之旅遊，但希望未有機參加這個訪問團的校友們會在不久之將來組織第二次歸寧母校『尋根、聚情、講學』旅遊。盡量發揚母校『白綠一家親』的精神。
